Fall Art Classes

Monday, August 31, 2009

This week starts up the fall kids' art classes again. Yay! One of the mothers called me last Thursday. Her daughter was ready and rarin' to go. I had to tell her one more week. :)

I love this age. The kids are all around seven to ten years old and nobody, I mean nobody, can tell them they are not artists. I love doing everything I can to encourage that. Our schools focus so much on math and science I want give these kids that creative push.

And let them know that there are no mistakes, just opportunities. How many times have you messed up on something but it turned out even cooler than your original idea?

Over the summer we did a journal class. http://journalfest.blogspot.com/ They worked for four hours a day every week and were still disappointed when their time was up. How often do kids have an attention span like that?

And then we have a regular art and craft class. http://nourishkidscreativity.blogspot.com/ They loved it as well. It's a little tougher to plan because I don't go in for fun foam crafts unless we're cutting it up to make our own stamps. hehe

I'm planning my lessons for October now. Anyone have any ideas? Websites? Books?

Almost all kids love creating things. I encourage each and every one of you to sit down with a child and do a project. Even one with fun foam. :) They'll thank you for it.

Fairy Houses!!! Sierra has evolved from the pink, fluffy, glittery ones into more woodsy, mossy, natural houses we put outside by our trees or hide in clumps of grass.

I also like the one-word banners from SouleMama, where you choose a word that means something to you, inspires, etc. and then make a banner of it. She uses "dream" for the cover of her book and has it hanging over her child's bed. Love it!

Well, that's all I've got!!!
